New York Muffins is one of my favorite coffee hangouts in Brooklyn because of its good vibes. Diego and I have been coming here for about 4 years (they have been open for 5 years). In the early weeks of Diego’s life when he would wake up for the day at 5:30am I would come here…it was the only place open at that crazy hour. Boy, did I love having this place when I had a daily routine of waking up, feeling exhausted, and wanting an additional purpose to my day other than sleeping and breastfeeding my child all day. New York Muffins was an odd sanctuary then and it still is now but in a sweeter way. This café and juice bar located in the neighborhood of Williamsburg is not a coffee shop that I normally recommend. It’s not for laptop freelancers to hang for hours, it doesn’t have comfy couches to relax on and it’s not for a long meeting with a friend that you haven’t seen in months. I recommend this place to people that like coffee and like to watch the life of a changing neighborhood, people wanting to explore Brooklyn, tourists that want to see another part of the New York City, and definitely fresh juice lovers (the have a great selection of fruit juices). New York Muffins has plenty of log-like benches outside facing the Bedford Avenue and North 6th Street Traffic. Since the neighborhood has changed so much, the kinds of people that you may see walking are young hipsters, families, Turkish business men and Polish youth from neighboring Greenpoint. The place serves every kind of coffee and they have a list of 20 different varieties from flavored coffees to Caramel Lattes and Chai blended ice beverages. For those with a sweet tooth they have a rainbow selection of cupcakes, muffins (Carrot Cream is my favorite), French Cruellers, and unique flavors of Gelato. New York Muffins is located at 198 Bedford Avenue on the East corner of North 6th Street. Take the L Train to Bedford and one block south.
